How to extract frames from a video on your phone

No app to install. Snapframe runs in your phone's browser on Android and iPhone, and the video stays on the device: nothing is sent to a server.

On Android (Chrome)

  1. Open tools.codes/en/snapframe in Chrome.
  2. Tap "Choose video" and pick the video from your gallery or Files.
  3. Pick Interval, Count or Scenes and tap "Extract frames".
  4. Tap "Download" under the frame you want. The image goes to Downloads and shows up in your gallery.

On iPhone (Safari)

  1. Open tools.codes/en/snapframe in Safari.
  2. Tap "Choose video", then "Photo Library" to pick a video from your camera roll.
  3. Extract frames as on Android.
  4. When you tap "Download", Safari saves to Files › Downloads. To send it to Photos, long-press the image in the grid and choose "Add to Photos".

Why not just take a screenshot?

A screenshot records the screen, not the video: it comes out at screen resolution, with the player controls on top and usually blurred, because it's hard to pause at the exact instant. Extracting the frame gives you the image at the video's own resolution, with nothing on top, and you can pick the sharpest of several neighbouring frames.
