Frequently asked questions
The most common questions about Snapframe.
Is Snapframe free?
Yes. No sign-up, no paid plan and no watermark. The site is supported by ads.
Is my video sent anywhere?
No. Your own browser opens and processes the video. It never leaves your computer or phone, which is why it even works offline once the page has loaded.
Which video formats work?
Whatever your browser can play: MP4 (H.264) and WebM everywhere; MOV and HEVC depend on the browser and system. If a video won't open, convert it to MP4 H.264.
Is there a size limit?
The video is never sent to a server, so there is no size limit. The practical limit is your device's memory. Each run is capped at 2,000 frames.
Which image format should I pick?
JPG for sharing, PNG for lossless editing, WebP for smaller files.
How does Scenes mode work?
The video is sampled a few times per second, and a sudden change in the picture counts as a cut. One frame is taken at the start of each scene. Slow fades may not be detected.
What does "Skip repeated frames" do?
It compares each frame with the last one kept and drops near-identical ones. Handy for screen recordings, lectures and still shots.
Can I use the images anywhere?
The images are yours as far as the video is yours. Respect the rights of whoever made the original video.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone. See the phone guide.
